Happy Earth Day!

Really, what a better day could there be? To celebrate and to consider how we, who depend upon the Earth for our very lives, plan to care for the Earth to make sure that she is around in good shape for a long time.

Only one thing could be finer.

And that is me, Constitution Day, every September 17th.

The Earth gives us sustenance, the physical needs of life. The Constitution defines the protections of our rights, and the rights are what give our lives their real meaning, provide our lives with real possibilities. So while Earth Day is very nice, and as nice for dogs and cats as it is for people, Constitution Day is just for people.

So while on Earth Day I may plant a tree in a park, it is every day that I will consider my rights and how they can be exercised and how they must be protected.

Yours truly,

Constitution Day.

p.s.

Other than the day that the Constitution was approved, Sept. 17th has no special meaning. The fact that on Sunday, Sept. 17, 1967, Jim Morrison and The Doors defy CBS censors on The Ed Sullivan Show (Morrison sang the lyrics, "Girl, we couldn't get much higher" from the song, Light My Fire when asked not to) does not mean anything.
