I heard this interview of David Walker, Former US Comptroller General of GAO, on CSpan on Friday. It was excellent and thought I'd recommend it to you all. (I have not discovered a way to share Cspan videos.) He seems to be an honest Democrat and one concerned about the size of the federal debt.

In the video, he talks about healthcare legislation and the unrealistic assumptions behind the CBO's assumptions, US debt, and a possible global depression, among other issues.

This is one reason we offer vote scorecards on FreedomAction.org. If anyone has any particular votes they'd like to see added to the card, I'm open to suggestions.

With more funding, we'll be able to add state and local votes, as well.

The CBO is, and always will be, suspect. They have employers, people responsible for them keeping their jobs and this does create both an appearance and a real situation of conflict.

Mostly, I'd not like to start blaming the CBO for bad legislation. For this, I hold my representatives accountable. And I also shall hold them accountable for manipulating and compromising what should be a valued institution.

I tend to see the CBO as not much different than the White House OMB.

Now, the problem is this: can we as voters retain these events in memory to inform our choices at the polls. As always, when it comes down to a democracy working, it rests with the people.
