The Politics of Personal Destruction

The hearings to confirm Clarence Thomas’ appointment to the Supreme Court were ending. His opponents had been unable to find a flaw in his career or character that would deny him the appointment. When all else fails, the last refuge of the scoundrel engaged in the politics of personal destruction is a charge of sexual harassment. Why? Sexual harassment cannot be proven or disproven. The only evidence is “He said- She said”. Guilt or innocence just depends on who you believe and the sexual innuendo has considerable emotion attached to it. There is no defense, and the charge of sexual harassment can only damage the victim.

Even though the tactics failed to stop Mr. Thomas’ appointment, the same tactic is being used to attack Herman Cain.

The liberal character assassins have searched for months for a flaw in Mr. Cain’s career or character, to allow them to stem Mr. Cain’s growing popularity and eliminate him from consideration as the Republican nominee for President in 2012.

Apparently, the liberal character assassins were unable to find the flaw and settled for a charge of sexual harassment, the last refuge of the scoundrel engaging in the politics of personal destruction.

It is a testament to Mr. Cain’s character and career that the liberal character assassins had to settle for a charge of sexual harassment.
