But November is coming! Thank you so much for your tens of thousands of emails and calls to your senators on Senator Murkowski’s resolution to stop the EPA from using the Clean Air Act to ration energy. Yesterday, the Senate voted against the resolution 53 to 47. Six Democrats crossed the aisle to vote with all 41 Republicans. Republicans that we thought would vote against us, we now have on record as being against this EPA overreach.
On the vote, Freedom Action Director Myron Ebell states:
Senator Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) said that he was voting Yes because “I don’t want EPA turning out the lights on America.” 53 of his fellow Democrats disagreed. They have voted to give EPA the authority to turn out the lights on America. They must now take full responsibility for the economic consequences of EPA regulation of greenhouse gas emissions.
Here are a few details from the stomach-turning day on the Senate floor.
Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) said during the debate that the USA pays President Ahmadinejad of Iran $100m a day for oil. This is absolutely, unequivocally false, according to CEI’s Iain Murray. Iran is subject to sanctions that specifically target the Iranian oil industry. And Kerry’s the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee?!
Then there was Senator Jim Webb (D-Va.), who spoke for us, until he voted against us. In his excellent impassioned speech he said, “I do not believe that Congress should cede its authority over an issue as important as climate change to unelected officials of the Executive Branch” and “Without proper boundaries, this finding could be the first step in a long and expensive regulatory process that could lead to overly stringent and very costly controls on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. Congress – and not the EPA – should make important policies, and be accountable to the American people for them.” Then he voted no—on the grounds that it would reverse regulatory progress on auto mileage standards and that, instead, he would vote for Senator Rockefeller’s two year delay bill. However, even Rockefeller voted for the Murkowski Resolution.
Finally, we can’t forget the melodrama of Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) with her picture of an oil-soaked dead bird—as if this vote would bring its death meaning and justice. Fittingly, where was President Obama during the memorial service for the victims of the BP disaster last month? According to CNN's Wolf Blitzer—"He went out to San Francisco for a fund-raiser for Barbara Boxer." (More on Boxer here.)
As with the attack at Pearl Harbor, the American people have been greatly underestimated. In November, the tax-spend-and-regulators wiil face the fury of their wrath.
We’ll keep you informed on the next actions we need to take to win this battle. Thanks again!
Yours for freedom,
Julie Walsh

Thank heavens there were 53 Senators that accept the overwhelming consensus of the scientific community that global warming is strongly influenced by human activities that produce greenhouse gases. They also realize that the future costs of global warming far exceed the immediate costs of addressing a manageable cause. We pay, or our kids pay a lot more!
